Qwoted: What do you see as the future of PR—technologically, strategically, or in any category you’re passionate about?

Haley Kohlmeir: I think AI can play a big part in crafting pitches in the future. Although it can be helpful, AI will never replace the creative minds that we as humans possess. I think it would make pitching a lot faster and more efficient used as a tool.

Qwoted: What do you do that you’re most proud of and that other PRs could learn from?

Kohlmeir: I am really good at being persistent. I come from a media sales background where I sold ads in the broadcast, radio, digital, and print space. My job was to be creative, convincing and persistent. Taking any type of sales training course would be a big benefit to those in PR!

Qwoted: What’s your toughest challenge with reporters?

Kohlmeir: Getting them to respond. Reporters are bombarded with hundreds of stories a day. It is sometimes difficult to stand out unless you have an ongoing relationship with them.

Qwoted: How do you approach breaking through the noise floor to get effective coverage?

Kohlmeir: Using different methods of communication to contact the media. I always reach out via email, phone call, and social media! I also love crafting video pitches. Video stands out more than a simple written email.

Qwoted: How does PR in 2024 square with the future of journalism?

Kohlmeir: Accuracy is more important than ever. So if fact checking. In a world full of social media and different voices being heard constantly, it is important that your research and pitches support the truth. I also think that roles in the PR industry will be ever-changing. As more and more social media outlets arise, we have to be more convincing and establish relationships as often as we can.

Qwoted: What advice would you give to those seeking to find an effective PR person?

Kohlmeir: I would tell them to look for an agency or PR person that is loyal to their clients and listens to their client’s needs. The client should be open to taking on all opportunities given by the PR person/agency. This will help them grow in the long-run!

Qwoted: What is your golden rule of PR?

Kohlmeir: To craft engaging and compelling pitches and always fact check. Be persistent, but not annoying.
